Stacey Lizette
Instructs: Bellydance
Stacey has studied belly dance (aka Oriental, Middle Eastern, Raks Sharqi) since 1995 in Austin, TX. She was instantly addicted to the rhythms of Middle Eastern music and the creativity and freedom of movement. Since, she has studied with and taken workshops throughout the years with recognized names in the U.S. bellydance community, learning stylizations in folkloric, raks sharki and fusion. Most notable is Stacey’s continued studies with renowned performer and instructor Suhaila Salimpour. Stacey has studied in Suhaila’s format since 2001, earning her Level I and Level II certifications. Her goal is to continue certification training through Level V, which entails further layering of muscle isolations with footwork, finger cymbals and deeper emotional interpretation of Middle Easter music. In addition to bellydance training, Stacey cross trains in ballet and jazz as well as other fitness areas such as pilates, weight training and yoga.
In addition to her studies, Stacey has been a troupe member of Eshta, Mirage, and currently the Sabaya Bellydance Collective. Performing as a soloist and group member, she has performed in a wide range of venues – from wedding receptions and parties to the larger stages of workshops, festivals and theaters. She has experience with dance props including rhythmic finger cymbals, cane, sword balancing and veil work. Stacey traveled to Egypt in 2006 for private lessons with some of Egypts top dance performers and choreographers to include Magda and Atef Farag, Aida Noor, Randa Kamel and Yasmina of Cairo. She teaches weekly classes in a technique that focus on muscle control, posture and timing as it applies to Middle Eastern dance.
